Raccoon Found Hidden In Car Shipped From U.S. To Belarus

Belarus – Customs officials in Belarus made an unusual discovery when inspecting a car shipped from the United States: a live raccoon was found hiding inside.

The vehicle was part of a larger shipment arriving in the country via container ship. Investigators noticed the raccoon napping on the dashboard and immediately took action to ensure its safety.

The animal was transported to the Oshmyany District Veterinary Station, where it quickly displayed a healthy appetite for eggs. Officials also noted that Senya, as the raccoon has been named, enjoys crab sticks and fresh grapes in addition to his favorite chicken eggs.

“He is friendly and well-mannered,” the Customs Committee said in an update on the stowaway.

Senya will remain in quarantine until February 3. Authorities will then decide whether he will be relocated to the Grodno Zoo or released into the Naliboki Forest.

This surprising discovery highlights the unexpected challenges customs officials can face when inspecting international shipments.
