Batman Calls Santa Clara Officials Cowards Over ICE At Super Bowl

Santa Clara, California – An unidentified man dressed in a Batman costume confronted city officials during a joint meeting of the City Council, city authorities, and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority on Tuesday, angrily criticizing the city’s cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“What the f—k are we doing here?” the man said in his opening remarks. “… You have had months to prepare for this upcoming event.” He demanded that the city immediately formalize policies barring the use of city resources, data, or personnel in cooperation with ICE.

“Can any one of you go home to your children and tell them that you did everything you could to protect their classmates, to protect their grandparents, to protect them? I don’t think you can,” he said.

He accused the majority of the council of failing to take precautions months earlier and said that councilmembers would betray their constituents if they did not act immediately.

“As of right now, I stand in front of a council of cowards,” he said. “And if you do not act, you’re not just cowards. You are traitors.”

The speaker’s comments come amid heightened scrutiny of federal law enforcement at the upcoming Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium, where ICE is expected to have a presence. Officials acknowledged receiving notification of ICE’s anticipated involvement but said the scope of any enforcement remained unclear.

ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations division has not historically conducted immigration operations at the Super Bowl, but has participated in security operations at large events, focusing on issues such as human trafficking and counterfeit merchandise.

Concerns about ICE activity intensified after Department of Homeland Security adviser Corey Lewandowski criticized the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny for the halftime show, arguing major events should not provide “safe haven” for undocumented immigrants.
