Car Plunges Into River After Sliding Off Icy Road In Ashland

Ashland, Massachusetts – On Monday night, a car veered off an icy road on Myrtle Street and plunged into the Sudbury River near the Mill Pond waterfalls, public safety officials reported.

Ashland police and fire departments responded to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. The driver was treated on-site, and the vehicle was removed from the river by emergency crews.

Firefighters posted updates online, warning that “The road is back open but drivers should use caution as crews work on clearing roads.” Videos and photos show the car being lifted from the river while strapped by rescue teams.

The crash occurred amid cleanup from one of the region’s largest snowstorms in recent years, with Ashland receiving roughly 18 inches of snow, according to National Weather Service reports.
