Manila, Philippines – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Monday received 15 Filipino crew members rescued from the Singapore-flagged bulk carrier MV Devon Bay, which capsized on January 22 north of Bajo de Masinloc.
The rescued crew members are reported to be in stable condition. Tragically, the remains of two crew members were recovered. Four others remain missing as the Philippine Coast Guard continues search and rescue operations to account for all personnel and assist families.
DMW officials, including Assistant Secretary Jerome Pampolina and Director Augusto San Diego, along with OWWA Deputy Administrator Rosanne Catapang, greeted the survivors aboard the BRP Teresa Magbanua. The operation was coordinated with Philippine Coast Guard Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, ensuring immediate support and aid.
The MV Devon Bay, carrying iron ore from Zamboanga del Norte to China, capsized approximately 141 nautical miles west of Pangasinan. Chinese authorities also launched a joint rescue effort near Scarborough Shoal, deploying military aircraft and Coast Guard ships to assist.
The DMW expressed gratitude to the Philippine Coast Guard for safely transporting the rescued crew members and pledged to continue closely monitoring the situation while coordinating with agencies to protect all crew and support their families.
