Crane Slams Into Passenger Train In Alumbres, Leaving Carriage Crumpled

Alumbres, Cartagena, Spain – A passenger narrow-gauge train was struck by a crane in Alumbres on January 22, 2026, causing visible damage to one of the carriages on the Cartagena to Los Nietos route.

Video credited to Onda Regional shows the damaged train stopped along the FEVE line at the accident site. One carriage has clear structural impact marks, including a large dent on its side, bent metal panels, and shattered or cracked windows, with glass fragments scattered nearby.

The crane involved in the collision is positioned next to the tracks, with its boom extended across the rail line and still in contact with, or extremely close to, the damaged carriage. The positioning indicates the crane entered the train’s path during its passage.

Emergency responders in high-visibility clothing are seen securing the area, assessing the damage, and assisting passengers. The narrow-gauge single track with overhead electrification is visible, with the train stopped and slightly out of alignment.

The incident took place in the industrial and rural outskirts of Alumbres, where fenced land, sparse buildings, vegetation, and overhead wires surround the tracks under overcast daytime skies.

There were 15 passengers on board the train, including one person with reduced mobility. All passengers were evacuated and provided with alternative transport. One person sustained minor injuries.

The collision caused service disruptions on the Cartagena–Los Nietos line. No fire or major derailment is visible, with the scene focused on the damaged carriage, the crane’s position, and the emergency response.
