Blinding Conditions Force Drivers Off Roads South Of Grand Forks

Grand Forks, North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports multiple vehicles stopped in driving lanes south of Grand Forks as of 1:38 p.m. on January 18, 2026, due to near-zero visibility. Troopers warn this is extremely dangerous.

Drivers are urged to pull completely onto the shoulder if stopping, or avoid travel entirely. A no-travel advisory is in effect, with multiple road closures across the northeast region and more expected. Emergency responders are working to keep roads clear.

Officials caution that traveling on closed roads is illegal and puts lives at serious risk.
