Madrid, Spain – Replacement buses carrying exhausted travelers arrived at Madrid Atocha railway station late on January 18, 2026, following a catastrophic high-speed train collision near Adamuz, Córdoba. The scene was captured by journalist Tania Tapia/ 3Cat.
The buses brought passengers stranded by the accident, many of whom were elderly and visibly shaken, emotionally drained, or needing assistance after the disrupted journey. Staff and companions guided travelers as they disembarked, while medical and psychological support teams were on hand at the station.
The collision involved an Iryo train traveling from Málaga to Madrid with around 300 passengers and an oncoming Alvia train from Madrid to Huelva carrying approximately 184 passengers. The head-on crash killed at least 39 people and injured over 150, leaving many hospitalized and halting the Madrid-Andalusia high-speed line.
The arrival of buses at Atocha marked a critical stage in the coordinated response, reuniting survivors with support services and allowing displaced travelers to reach safety after the tragedy. Families and authorities managed the scene with somber order as the aftermath unfolded.
