Woden, Texas, USA – On December 14, 2025, two deputies from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office responded to a frantic 911 call at a residence on FM 226 in the Woden community. The caller reported an 18-month-old child unconscious and turning blue.
Deputies arrived seven minutes later and immediately saw the child struggling to breathe. Knowing that the ambulance was still a long distance away, the deputies took decisive action to save precious time.
The child was quickly loaded into a patrol unit. One deputy provided medical attention, while the other drove and relayed real-time information to dispatch. During the drive, deputies continued to stabilize the child and improve their breathing.
Upon arrival at a local hospital, the child was handed over to emergency staff, who later transferred the child to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. The hospital’s emergency doctor commended the deputies’ actions, stating they likely saved the child’s life.
The child has since been released from Texas Children’s Hospital and returned safely home.
