Teen Faces Attempted Murder After Using Propane Tank And Molotov To Ignite Home

Lehigh Acres, FL – A teen was arrested Saturday after allegedly using a propane tank and a Molotov cocktail to set a home on fire while four people slept inside.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Lehigh Acres Fire Department responded around 6:00 a.m. to a residential fire on the 300 block of Paisley Avenue. Deputies found an opened 5-gallon propane tank near the front door and a homemade Molotov cocktail at the scene.

All four occupants escaped through a window and were unharmed.

Investigators say multiple witnesses reported that the suspect, Maikol Estrada Gomez, had been parked nearby and briefly spoke with the victims before leaving. Estrada Gomez was later located at his home, where he admitted to transporting the propane tank, igniting the fire with a gas-filled bottle, and attempting to kill a resident inside.

He has been charged with four counts of attempted felony murder, arson, occupied burglary, making a destructive device, and possession or use of a weapon. Estrada Gomez is now in secure detention with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
