Syria – Royal Air Force aircraft conducted a precision strike on a Daesh underground facility in the mountains north of Palmyra on the evening of Saturday, January 3, 2026.
The target was identified through careful intelligence analysis as an underground site previously used by Daesh, likely for storing weapons and explosives. The surrounding area is uninhabited, minimizing any risk to civilians.
RAF Typhoon FGR4 jets, supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker, joined French aircraft in the joint operation. Paveway IV guided bombs were used to target multiple access tunnels leading into the facility.
Initial reports indicate the strike successfully engaged the target. All aircraft returned safely, and there is no evidence that the operation endangered civilians.
These patrols and strikes are part of ongoing RAF efforts to prevent a resurgence of the Daesh terrorist movement following its military defeat at Baghuz Fawqani in March 2019.
