Cable Car Crash Traps About 100 People At The Italian Alps

MACUGNAGA (VCO) Loc. Monte Moro – Firefighters have been operating since 11:30 on December 30, 2025, in the municipality of Macugnaga following an accident involving the two cabins of the Al Moro cable car.

The incident occurred when both cabins struck the structures of the upper and lower stations. The impact caused the entire system to stop, leaving about 100 people stranded at the upper station.

At the lower station, the cable car operator was injured. In the upper cabin, three of the fifteen passengers on board were reported injured.

Firefighters, working alongside Alpine Rescue personnel and the Guardia di Finanza, were deployed to manage the emergency and assist those affected.

Two fire brigade helicopters, Drago 166 and Drago 61, are operating on site to evacuate the people trapped at altitude following the shutdown of the cable car system.
