Laredo, Texas – A human smuggler crashed a Lincoln Navigator into a commercial vehicle on December 17, 2025, while trying to escape Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, putting 10 illegal immigrants inside at risk.

The driver, Jorge Alonso Diaz Jr. of Laredo, was taken into custody after the crash. Troopers discovered all 10 immigrants inside the vehicle, who were being smuggled across the area.

Diaz faces charges including smuggling of persons, causing serious bodily injury, and evading arrest.

Texas DPS said troopers continue to combat human smuggling while maintaining public safety as part of Operation Lone Star 2.0.
