Madrid, Spain – Madrid firefighters have successfully removed a car-laden trailer that became trapped in the Bailén tunnel in the Moncloa-Aravaca district, an incident that brought traffic to a standstill for several hours.
The heavy vehicle entered the underpass shortly before noon, exceeding the 3.85-meter clearance limit due to the height of the cars it was transporting. The trailer became wedged inside the tunnel, forcing an immediate closure of the access road from Ferraz Street to ensure safety.
Firefighters faced complex challenges due to the trailer’s awkward position and the condition of two of the transported vehicles. Precise maneuvers were needed to avoid structural damage and safely free the vehicle.
The Madrid Municipal Police assisted by regulating and diverting traffic along alternative routes while the tunnel entrance remained closed.
By approximately 2:45 p.m., firefighters completed the extraction. Subsequent inspections of the road and tunnel allowed traffic to gradually resume. No injuries were reported, though the incident caused significant traffic jams on one of the busiest access roads in the area.
