Oregon City, Oregon – A video posted by Riverfront Spokane on December 17, 2025 captures the raw power of Willamette Falls on the Willamette River, viewed from inside a vehicle.
The historic Oregon City Arch Bridge stretches high above the river, its multiple arches and central tower-like structure partially obscured by thick mist from the crashing water below. Massive volumes of frothy white water roar over the falls, generating spray that envelops the base of the bridge and surrounding cliffs. Bare trees and an overcast sky highlight the winter conditions. No people or damage are visible.
This dramatic surge is the result of heavy rainfall from a series of atmospheric rivers pounding the Pacific Northwest in mid-December 2025. Rivers across Oregon, including the Willamette, are running extremely high, causing minor flooding in low-lying areas, road closures, power outages, and heightened landslide risks in the Willamette Valley. Willamette Falls, the second-largest waterfall by volume in the U.S., appears especially powerful as water surges over its horseshoe-shaped basalt ledge.
Riverfront Spokane notes that the Spokane River is currently flowing at 18,600 cubic feet per second, more than five times the same day last year, and urges viewers to enjoy the scenery responsibly and follow local safety guidance. Popular viewing locations include Riverfront Park, Numerica SkyRide, Place of Truths Plaza, Monroe Street Bridge, and Veterans Court.
