San Francisco, California – A video shared on X by user Diablo Rising Tide shows a peaceful interfaith protest outside the United States Appraisers Building at 630 Sansome Street on December 16, 2025.
The footage captures dozens of Bay Area faith leaders and supporters, including rabbis, priests, ministers, and community members wearing winter clothing and colorful stoles. They stand behind metal barricades near the building entrance, singing hymns and protest songs such as “This Little Light of Mine,” while some play guitar.
Protesters hold signs and gather beside a large red and yellow banner reading “Our Faiths Teach Us: Love Thy Neighbor & Disrupt Injustice.” The atmosphere appears determined and unified, with the group focused on blocking access to the ICE field office inside the building.
According to authorities, hundreds of demonstrators blocked entrances and chained themselves to the doors of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. The action led to the closure of the office for the day.
The Department of Homeland Security said 44 people were arrested by United States Federal Protective Service officers. A reporter witnessed federal officers restraining several people with zip ties. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin described those arrested as “rioters” and said all were U.S. citizens.
Faith leaders said they escalated their actions after months of maintaining a presence outside Bay Area immigration courthouses, where they claimed individuals attending legal proceedings were detained. Protest organizers identified themselves as part of the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity.
