Sao Paulo, Brazil – A 26-year-old woman intentionally caused a gas explosion that severely injured five police officers, a firefighter, and herself while authorities responded to a residential call in Vila Santo Antônio on December 8, 2025.
Body camera footage shows officers and firefighters negotiating with the woman, who refused to dress and demanded they leave. She shouted, “I just want to sleep, go away,” and “you’ve already tested my patience,” as police tried to gain entry.
When officers forced their way inside, the woman screamed in panic. An officer went upstairs to get a towel for her when a massive explosion erupted, producing a bright yellow flash. The officer ran as colleagues’ screams echoed.
The police were initially called for a possible suicide attempt. After no contact was made, the area was isolated and firefighters were called. Once inside, the intentional gas explosion caused severe injuries.
The woman was arrested and hospitalized under police supervision. She faces charges of exploding an inhabited house and attempted homicide. Three officers remain in critical condition in the ICU at the Hospital das Clinicas.
The 72nd Police District is investigating, and technical examinations are underway to clarify the sequence of events.
