Seattle, United States – Washington State highways are experiencing severe disruptions as a winter storm triggers multiple road closures and travel hazards.
US 2 is currently closed between Skykomish and Tumwater Canyon (MP 50-99), preventing passage through this key corridor. US 12 has been shut down in two locations: near Naches (MP 190) and near Chilcoat Avenue (MP 115). Officials report that US 12 in Naches has sustained major damage and will require repairs before reopening.
All lanes of eastbound I-90 are now open at Winery Road (MP 27) following a slide yesterday. WSDOT crews worked quickly to remove debris and restore access.
Transportation disruptions extend to rail travel as well. Amtrak Cascades service between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada, is suspended through Friday, December 12.
Overall, more than 30 closures are currently affecting highways across 12 counties, with conditions subject to rapid change. WSDOT reminds motorists that “Road Closed” signs must be obeyed to ensure the safety of both travelers and crews working under challenging conditions.
