Birmingham, UK – A stolen car chase turned dangerous when a passenger used a fire extinguisher to try to stop police officers in Hodge Hill.
On October 30, officers from the Roads Policing Unit spotted the stolen vehicle and began to follow it. The car initially failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, the passenger released a fire extinguisher in the path of officers. The driver also threw a fire extinguisher canister at a police car, causing damage. Despite the hazard, officers kept the vehicle in sight.
The pursuit ended on the A38 Northbound slip road near the M6, where officers stopped the car safely.
Shea McCallion, 19, of Kings Road, Stockland Green, was arrested for theft and aiding and abetting dangerous driving. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Birmingham Crown Court.
Constable Joseph Gigli said, “McCallion was involved in a dangerous pursuit where he put our colleagues at risk by using the fire extinguisher, but thankfully we were able to stop the car using our tactics.”
