Residents Cling To Trees As Deep Floodwaters Sweep Through Bireuen

Bireuen – The SAR Alert Unit of Bireuen carried out nonstop evacuations from Tuesday, November 25 to Thursday, November 27, 2025, after severe flooding struck multiple villages across Bireuen County.

Joint SAR teams moved stranded residents to safety, focusing especially on vulnerable groups including toddlers, the elderly, pregnant mothers and residents in ill condition.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the team evacuated twenty citizens from Cureh Village, among them three toddlers and one elderly person. In Village Uten Retoh, 12 souls were transferred to a safe location. Six residents were rescued from Mns. Gadong Village, including one person with a broken leg. The day ended with the evacuation of three citizens from Mns. Capa Village.

Evacuations intensified on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, centered on District Peusangan. The team rescued 35 souls, including 30 residents trapped inside their homes. Among them were four toddlers, six elderly individuals and five residents in sick condition. Four citizens who were clinging to trees after being swept up by flood currents, along with one pregnant mother, were also evacuated.

On Thursday, November 27, 2025, operations continued in Pante Lhong Village, Peusangan District. A total of 23 souls were evacuated, while 300 heads of affected families were safely transferred from the flood zone. During the operation, the team found two deceased victims and evacuated one paralyzed citizen and 20 elderly citizens.

In total, 99 souls and 300 heads of families were evacuated during the three-day response. Basarnas Banda Aceh and other SAR units continue to monitor conditions and remain on alert for further extreme weather.
