Blood Red Thunderstorm Lights Up Phoenix Sky

Phoenix, Arizona – X user Jeremiah Cota posted a video on November 20, 2025, captioned “Sunset reflections causing thunderstorms to look blood red this evening. Wild Phoenix Arizona weather tonight. Azwx”.

The footage is filmed from the side of a highway or from a parking lot in the Phoenix area, with semi trucks, cars, and road signs visible in the foreground.

As the camera slowly tilts upward, a towering stack of thunderstorm clouds fills the frame at dusk. The storm is lit dramatically from below by the setting sun.

The underside and edges of the clouds burn with intense, eerie shades of deep red, pink, and purple, making the thunderstorm appear almost on fire and matching the “blood red” description in the caption.

No rain, lightning, or dust can be seen in this clip. It is purely the visual impact of the sunset backlighting the storm in apocalyptic colors against the darkening sky, a striking piece of Arizona monsoon season weather photography.
