Firefighters Airlift Residents From Flooded Homes In Italy

Romans d’Isonzo, Italy – Firefighters used a helicopter to reach stranded residents in the Versa district of Romans d’Isonzo, landing on the roof of a house and lowering rescuers on a rope to evacuate people trapped by rising floodwater.

The aerial rescue took place as severe weather continued to impact the area, leaving several homes surrounded by water overnight. Fire crews completed the evacuations during the night after residents became isolated inside their properties.

This morning, firefighters began pumping operations to clear flooded zones across the community.

Emergency teams are also concluding interventions in Udine, Palmanova, Trivignano, and Manzano, which were hit hard by yesterday’s violent weather.

Across the two provinces of Friuli Venezia Giulia, more than 200 firefighters are currently in action, supported by reinforcements arriving from Lombardy, Veneto, and Emilia Romagna.
