Timelapse Reveals Northern Lights Over Woodbine During Fierce Geomagnetic Storm

Woodbine, Maryland – Video filmed by Sami shows a timelapse of the Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, shimmering over the area on November 12, 2025, during a severe geomagnetic storm caused by a powerful solar flare and coronal mass ejection.

This display is part of a wider event in which auroras became visible across much of the United States, reaching unusually far south as charged particles raced toward Earth at speeds of up to 4 million mph.

In the timelapse, the lights appear as colorful streaks and waves moving across the sky, mainly visible through long exposure photography because they were faint to the naked eye.
