La Rioja, Spain – The Civil Guard rescued four people, two adults and two minors, who became lost while hiking in the remote mountain area of Lomos de Orios, near Villoslada de Cameros, on Sunday evening.
Authorities reported that the group was found on a steep slope, disoriented and afraid to move after darkness fell.
The operation began at 7:05 p.m., when the Civil Guard’s Operations Center (COS) received an alert from SOS Rioja. Search teams from Navarrete and Murillo de Río Leza posts were deployed, along with members of the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) from Ezcaray.
After a coordinated search through rough terrain, the four hikers were located in a difficult-to-reach area. They showed mild symptoms of hypothermia and fatigue, and officers provided them with warm clothing and basic aid.
The hikers were then escorted to patrol vehicles and transported safely to the area where their car was parked, from which they later returned home.
The Civil Guard urged people to plan outdoor activities carefully and take precautions to avoid similar incidents.
