Kīlauea, Hawaiʻi – Observations at Kīlauea Volcano indicate that Eruptive Episode 36 is imminent, as frequent lava overflows continue from the north vent in the summit caldera.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported an increase in summit inflation, with tilt measurements reaching 0.9 microradian over the past 24 hours, up from 0.5 microradian the previous day. This follows a minor period of summit inflation and reflects ongoing geological activity.
Tremor patterns show continuous movement with occasional bursts, signaling that conditions for a substantial eruption are developing. Scientists estimate that Episode 36 could begin between November 4 and November 8, with November 5-7 as the most likely window.
Current lava fountaining episodes are expected to last from several hours to over a week, echoing the episodic activity seen during the 1983-86 Puʻuʻōʻō eruption.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to monitor the volcano closely. Coordination with Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and the Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency is ongoing to prepare for potential hazards.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay alert and follow updates as scientists track the evolving situation and provide guidance on safety measures.
