West Coast Storm Sweeps Through Alaska, Governor Declares Disaster

Alaska – Governor Dunleavy has declared a disaster as the 2025 West Coast Storm battered Western Alaska, driven by a tropical typhoon that pushed a powerful sea surge into communities. Homes, critical infrastructure, and key facilities across the Northwest Arctic Borough were inundated.

The Alaska DOT&PF deployed drones to capture real-time imagery across the storm zone. These rapid flights revealed damage to roads, bridges, airports, and coastal infrastructure, providing essential information for emergency response teams.

Drone data was streamed live through Flight Hub and Microsoft Teams, allowing state leaders to assess conditions quickly, direct resources, and implement protective measures where they were needed most.

“By streaming drone data live…we’re able to bring decision-makers together and respond smarter, faster, and stronger,” the DOT stated.

Officials emphasized unity and coordination during the crisis. “In times like this, we come together. We work together. And we respond together.”
