Indian Head Wilderness Area, New York – On September 26, six Forest Rangers responded to a report of a hiker with an ankle injury on Devil’s Path at Jimmy Dolan Notch, between Indian Head and Twin Mountain.
By 4:30 PM, Rangers, a Greene County Paramedic, and Hunter EMT reached the hiker and assessed the injury as an unstable ankle. The challenging terrain prompted a request for a New York State Police (NYSP) helicopter to perform a hoist rescue.
NYSP Pilots Engle and Maycrink, alongside Ranger Lieutenant Gullen and Ranger Thompson, flew to the scene. The team executed a successful hoist, safely lifting the hiker from the rugged area.
The 29-year-old hiker was transported by Hunter EMS to a hospital for further care. All resources were clear by 7:15 PM.
