Huge Sea of Strikers Floods Milan Streets as Italy’s General Strike Brings Tens of Thousands Out to March

Milan, Italy – An enormous crowd of marchers filled a Milan street from one side to the other as a general strike brought tens of thousands of people out across the city.

Footage filmed on via Andrea Costa on October 30 shows a dense river of people walking past parked cars and apartment blocks, stretching far into the distance. Some marchers carry flags as the procession moves slowly down the road.

“Milan, via Costa. A sea of people,” the filmer wrote.

Workers and students joined the march, which passed through via Costa after meeting at Piazzale Loreto and headed towards the Tangenziale Est ring road, which protesters occupied for around three hours before it reopened to traffic. Local media put the crowd at between 20,000 and 35,000, while organisers claimed 100,000 people took part.
