New York, New York – Alba Giraldo died three days after she was struck by an off-duty New York City Police Department officer driving his personal vehicle in Queens.

The incident happened at 8:46 p.m. on April 25, 2026, as the officer drove on 32nd Avenue. Giraldo was walking in a crosswalk when the officer turned left onto 92nd Street, striking her.

Giraldo was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on April 28.

New York Attorney General Letitia James released footage from two security cameras that captured the incident as part of the ongoing investigation by the Office of Special Investigation.

The release follows James’ directive that camera footage obtained during OSI investigations be made public to increase transparency and strengthen public trust.

Under New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI assesses incidents in which a police or peace officer may have caused a person’s death. If its assessment indicates an officer may have caused the death, OSI proceeds with a full investigation.

The footage release does not express an opinion on anyone’s guilt or innocence or on whether any individual may be charged with a crime.
