Police Officer Strips Down And Jumps Into Canal To Rescue Trapped Roe Deer Fawn

Canal Fluvial de Los Monegros, Huesca, Spain – A Guardia Civil patrol rescued a roe deer fawn after it fell into the Canal Fluvial de Los Monegros near Cantalobos in the municipality of Lanaja on Thursday, 3 September 2026.

The Lanaja station patrol found the fawn in the canal. Officers first tried to let the animal climb out on its own, but the current and its panic prevented it from escaping.

One officer stripped down before entering the green water and swimming toward the small brown fawn. With help from his colleagues, he brought the animal toward the canal bank.

The fawn slipped back into the water before the officers pushed it up the concrete slope and brought it to safety.

Guardia Civil said the fawn showed no apparent injuries and returned to its natural surroundings on its own.
