Big Sur, CA – Nighttime footage captured during evacuation operations shows the Timber Fire burning in the Big Sur area, with thick smoke and active flames lighting up the hills.
The video begins with a Monterey County Sheriff patrol vehicle as emergency lights flash. The camera then moves through heavy smoke illuminated by bright vehicle or search lights, revealing vegetation and road surfaces.
Later footage shows active orange flames and glowing fire lines along ridgelines, while thick orange-tinted smoke rises into the night sky. Beams of light cut through the smoke over the dark terrain.
The Timber Fire is burning in the Big Sur area of Monterey County and Los Padres National Forest. It started on August 8, 2026.
By August 10, the fire was highly active, with evacuation orders and warnings in effect. Later updates put the fire at roughly 2,000–2,500 acres with low containment of around 5%.
