Parker, Colorado – Video filmed by Parker Police Department shows a traffic stop involving a Tesla driver who was traveling 64 mph in a 45-mph zone on July 21, 2026.
During the stop, the driver repeatedly claimed, “I wasn’t driving… that’s the self-driving autopilot,” and argued that the vehicle’s Autopilot system meant they were not responsible for the speed.
The driver also referred to Tesla customer service and requested to speak with a supervisor while disputing the citation.
The officer noted the vehicle was a Tesla and said he had stopped other drivers using Autopilot before.
Parker Police emphasized that driver-assistance technology does not replace the person behind the wheel. Systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and other assistance features are designed to help drivers, not take over responsibility.
The driver was cited for speeding after traveling 64 mph in a 45-mph zone and continued arguing that the Autopilot system meant they were not accountable.
