Valley Springs area, Calaveras County, California – A dramatic video filmed by CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit captures firefighters battling the Gann Fire during the night as flames burn across a distant hillside.

The footage, recorded from a dirt road, shows bright orange flames and heavy smoke lighting up the landscape. An aircraft is seen releasing a stream of water onto the southeast edge of the fire while trees fill the foreground and part of a vehicle is visible at the bottom of the frame. On-screen text reads: “Early morning water drop on the South east edge of the #Gannfire.”

Firefighters worked throughout the night attacking the wildfire from both the ground and the air.

The Gann Fire began on the evening of August 3 near Hogan Dam Road and Gann Road, south of New Hogan Lake. By early August 4, it had grown to about 2,100 acres with 0% containment.

Evacuation orders remained unchanged overnight. The fire continued to spread at a moderate rate, and additional resources were responding to the area for the day shift.
