Pinellas County, Florida – Deputies responded after receiving a call about a citizen walking along US 19 and were unsure what situation they were heading toward.
The call unexpectedly involved two ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain while a citizen was attempting to rescue them as they crossed the highway.
The ducklings’ mother was nowhere in sight, and with US 19 being a busy roadway, it was unknown what had happened.
Thanks to the caring citizen and Deputies Urf and Norton, the ducklings were safely retrieved.
The ducklings appeared to be uninjured and were taken to Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife to be checked out.
Officials advised people who find injured or orphaned wildlife to call first so experts can guide them on whether and how to help before they arrive.
They also advised helping only when it is safe, not offering food or water to injured wildlife, keeping distance while monitoring the animal, and keeping other people and pets away from the area.
