Aielo de Malferit, Spain – Firefighters continued battling a major fire at a recycling plant in the Els Serrans industrial area of Aielo de Malferit after the blaze erupted Saturday afternoon.

Footage shows huge clouds of black smoke billowing above the industrial site as multiple fire engines arrived with emergency lights flashing.

Firefighters in full protective gear sprayed water into heavy smoke and visible flames burning behind concrete walls while crews worked around the facility as night fell.

The thick toxic smoke triggered the activation of the emergency plan and prompted recommendations for residents to remain indoors and seal their homes.

Bombers Valencia crews, supported by multiple fire engines and forest fire units, continued firefighting operations through the night using rotating shifts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby businesses.
