Abbadia Lariana, Italy – A rescue operation was launched late Saturday afternoon at Piramide Casati after three climbers were involved in an accident during an ascent.

A rock that broke away from the top of the wall struck one member of the climbing group.

The injured climber was recovered by a medical rescue helicopter and transported to hospital.

The two remaining climbers were left stranded at a position on the wall with only one rope available.

Fire service helicopter rescuers aboard the Drago 151 helicopter reached the pair and brought them to safety.
