Black River, Reynolds County, Missouri – A Missouri State Highway Patrol rescue boat capsized during flood response operations on July 10, 2026, after its outboard motor became entangled with a submerged line.
The sudden incident sent two troopers into the water as the boat overturned in the swift floodwaters.
Both troopers immediately entered the water and safely self-rescued. No injuries were reported.
Video from the scene shows the rescue boat flipping after the motor catches on the hidden line beneath the surface.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said floodwaters are unpredictable and often conceal hazards, even for responders equipped with specialized training and equipment.
Officials said the incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by troopers and partner agencies during emergency operations and urged the public to stay out of flooded areas whenever possible.
