London – Climate activists from Fossil Free campaigns interrupted an indoor event at the QEII Centre in London to protest the venue’s links with the fossil fuel industry.
The activists entered the conference-style setting while holding signs and chanting slogans including “London’s calling, London’s burning, don’t host oil.”
Video from the scene shows protesters addressing attendees as security and event staff react to the disruption.
Fossil Free campaigns said the action targeted the QEII Centre’s exclusive 40th birthday Summer Showcase, where they called out what they described as the venue’s role in hosting deals involving the fossil fuel industry.
The group demanded that London venues end contracts with Big Oil and stop supporting the oil industry.
The activists said their protest was a warning to venues across the city that continue hosting fossil fuel-related activities.
