Hayling Island, Hampshire, England – Soldiers and Military Working Horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment took part in a day of equine training on Hayling Island Beach during their three-week Summer Camp.

The Life Guards and Blues and Royals brought the horses from the streets of London to the Hampshire coast for a unique training exercise in a new environment.

After welcoming four world leaders to Windsor, protecting The King at the State Opening of Parliament, and taking part in the King’s Birthday Parade, the horses entered the sea as part of confidence-building training.

Used to the noise and unpredictability of London, the horses were exposed to shifting sands, crashing waves, screeching gulls, and excited children to help prepare them for unfamiliar situations.

For the youngest horses, the exercise marked their first encounter with the sea. The training also strengthened the bond between each horse and rider as they adapted together to the coastal conditions.
