New York, USA – Jets from the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, joined more than 150 aircraft in a spectacular July 4 flypast marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The aircraft trailed the team’s signature red, white, and blue smoke above the Hudson River, with Manhattan’s skyline providing a dramatic backdrop. Hundreds of thousands of spectators watched the International Aerial Review as aircraft from around the world took part.

Wing Commander Jon Bond, Red 1, led the formation. He said, “Flying over New York, surrounded by so many iconic landmarks and famous locations on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of American Independence, is a huge honour.”

He added, “Being invited to perform at this aerial review underlines just how close the enduring relationship is between the United Kingdom and United States and especially among our two nation’s militaries.”

The Red Arrows are carrying out a month-long United States tour called Operation Eagle Hawk to mark America 250. The visit includes performances in New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Maine, Maryland, and Michigan, recognizing the historic relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows represent the United Kingdom at home and overseas. The team is based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and consists of pilots and more than 100 highly trained support personnel.
