Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – Video filmed by BC Highway Patrol shows the dangerous consequences of illegally passing on the right shoulder during heavy traffic.

Dashcam footage from a BC Highway Patrol cruiser captures a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding along the shoulder and passing vehicles, including a blue pickup truck. When emergency lights and sirens are activated, the pickup ahead signals and begins moving onto the right shoulder as required by law.

The motorcyclist continues riding on the shoulder, strikes a road sign, and then collides with the rear of the pickup truck.

Officers arrive at the scene and detain the rider, placing him in handcuffs on the roadside.

The incident occurred on June 18, 2026. According to BC Highway Patrol, the 37-year-old rider from Chilliwack sustained minor injuries, received multiple traffic tickets, and had his motorcycle impounded for seven days.

Authorities released the footage as a warning that passing on the shoulder is illegal and dangerous, stating that violators will be ticketed.
