Sant Antoni de Calonge, Girona, Catalonia, Spain – Video filmed by X user I V A N shows a massive wildfire burning through the protected Les Gavarres massif, sending towering columns of thick orange and brown smoke drifting across the Costa Brava coast and creating dramatic scenes visible from the shoreline.
The footage, recorded from a rocky coastal area, shows dense smoke plumes rising high into the sky, partially obscuring the sun and casting an ominous orange glow across the landscape. Pine trees, rocky outcrops, and scattered buildings line the hillside in the foreground, while the enormous smoke cloud dominates the horizon above the sea.
The video captures the scale and intensity of the wildfire, which has forced thousands of residents in nearby towns, including Calonge and Sant Antoni de Calonge, to remain confined indoors.
The blaze began near La Bisbal d’Emporda and spread rapidly into the Gavarres hills, driven by strong winds. It has burned thousands of hectares and prompted evacuations and road closures across the region.
Firefighters continue working to contain the wildfire as authorities warn of the ongoing risk and the visible impact of smoke on coastal communities.
