Vinita, United States – Emergency crews carried out multiple swift water rescues after vehicles became stranded on heavily flooded county roads.
Two small SUVs stalled while attempting to cross floodwaters, forcing responders to step in and safely remove the drivers from the vehicles.
Officials warned that drivers often overestimate what vehicles can handle or underestimate the depth and force of floodwater, noting that even shallow moving water can sweep away cars, including SUVs and trucks.
Authorities stressed that flood conditions can quickly become dangerous when vehicles enter moving water, as currents are strong enough to push them off the roadway.
Emergency teams also cautioned that attempts to bypass barricades or cross flooded roads put both occupants and rescuers at serious risk.
Residents are strongly urged to follow the warning: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” and avoid driving into any water-covered roadway under any circumstances.
Officials emphasized that safety is critical not only for the public but also for emergency responders who are placed in danger during rescue operations.
Anyone encountering an emergency situation is advised to call 9-1-1 immediately for help.
