Dedham, Massachusetts, United States – A video shows a young raccoon moving through a yard with its head trapped inside a glass jar, struggling as it walks and lies on the grass with the container still stuck on its head.
The animal appears unable to remove the jar on its own and is seen in visible distress as it moves through the area.
Animal control personnel later responded after reports that the raccoon was showing signs of oxygen deprivation and appeared to be in critical condition.
Officers said they arrived on scene and carefully secured the young animal, then used controlled twisting and pulling movements to remove the jar from its head.
They reported being prepared to perform CPR compressions, with a wildlife rehabilitator on standby if needed.
After the jar was removed, the raccoon recovered within minutes while being closely monitored by the officers.
The animal then moved away with a few unsteady steps before crawling through a fence opening and climbing onto the top of a wooden swing set.
Officials continued to observe it for a short time and consulted with a rehabilitation specialist before determining it was healthy enough to remain in the wild.
They also noted that the raccoon’s family may be nearby, and that local residents, including a 5-year-old child who allowed use of a swing set, helped by keeping watch over the situation.
