Tampa Bay area, Florida, USA – Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office rescued a man in crisis from a dangerous overpass ledge above Interstate 75 near Harney Road during the early hours of June 23, 2026.
Body-worn camera footage shows deputies responding just before 3 a.m. after reports of a man threatening to take his own life. When they arrived, they found him standing on a narrow concrete ledge above the interstate, with water below.
The video captures deputies carefully approaching the man and establishing communication before quickly acting together to pull him to safety from the ledge.
Officials said the fast response prevented a potential tragedy during the early morning incident. The footage highlights coordinated action in a high-risk location above a busy highway.
Authorities emphasized the importance of training and teamwork when responding to mental health crises, particularly in dangerous environments such as overpasses and highways where situations can escalate rapidly.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also reminded the public that support is available for those in crisis through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
