Cop Shots Big Dog After It Charges At Him In Front Of Owner

Los Angeles, California – Police responded on June 13, 2026, at around 8:55 p.m. to a call for a “Screaming Woman” inside an apartment in the 7500 block of Jordan Avenue in Canoga Park.

Officers from the Topanga Patrol Division met with the person reporting, who directed them to the apartment unit. They contacted the resident, who had a large dog beside her that was barking at the officers.

Officers asked her to secure the dog. She briefly closed her door and then reopened it, and the dog exited the apartment.

Once outside, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services responded, took custody of the deceased dog, and confirmed the owner was present and cooperating with investigators.

Force Investigation Division investigators responded and are investigating the incident. No officers or members of the public were injured.
