Battery Park City, New York City – Thousands of people gathered on the lawns of Rockefeller Park as the Swedish Midsummer Festival brought flower crowns, traditional dancing, and summer celebrations to the waterfront.

Video filmed by X user New York City Kopp showed a large crowd under clear blue skies surrounding a tall maypole decorated with flowers. Participants wearing colorful flower crowns danced around the structure in the center of the field.

Dozens of people dressed in casual summer clothing and Swedish-themed outfits linked arms and moved in circles during traditional folk dances. Families sat nearby on blankets and folding chairs, enjoying picnics while watching the festivities against a backdrop of modern high-rise buildings.

A stage equipped with speakers and lighting stood in the distance among trees and urban towers. Bright sunlight stretched long shadows across the grass as the event created a lively atmosphere filled with movement, laughter, and celebration.

The Swedish Midsummer Festival at Rockefeller Park in Battery Park City marked its annual summer solstice celebration on June 20, 2026. Organized by the Battery Park City Authority and Sweden’s Consulate General in New York, the free event featured maypole dancing led by folk musicians, flower wreath making, live music, children’s games, and Swedish food from local vendors.
