Santiago, Chile – On the morning of June 9, 2026, a major fire broke out in a historic three-story casona at the intersection of Libertad and Agustinas streets in the Yungay neighborhood of central Santiago, triggering a third-alarm response from firefighters.

Video filmed by Cuerpo de Bomberos de Santiago shows firefighters continuing debris removal operations at the scene as crews work through the remains of the collapsed structure.

The footage shows a wide field of rubble where the historic building once stood, filled with twisted metal beams, charred wood, and collapsed walls. Smoke continues to rise from sections of the debris.

Firefighters in yellow and dark protective gear, wearing red and yellow helmets, are seen across the site in small groups, assessing conditions and coordinating ongoing operations. The area is secured with red-and-white caution tape.

Damaged neighboring buildings with ornate facades line the street under an overcast sky, while heavy equipment and fire hoses remain positioned throughout the wreckage.

The fire rapidly engulfed the historic structure, leading to a partial collapse that trapped residents inside.

Emergency crews rescued ten people from the debris. Two individuals suffered second-degree burns and were taken to hospital. At least one person was initially reported missing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. By the afternoon, operations had shifted toward debris removal and structural assessment at the site.
