Funnel Cloud Twists Over Winnipeg Airport As Severe Storm Unleashes Dramatic Skies

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – A severe thunderstorm on the evening of June 9, 2026, produced striking cloud formations, including a possible funnel cloud or landspout visible near Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Video recorded from a residential neighborhood at around 9:10 PM local time shows turbulent gray storm clouds spreading across the sky. In the distance, a distinct funnel-shaped or rotating cloud formation appears to descend over the horizon, with rain shafts or condensation visible beneath it.

The footage captures suburban homes with dark roofs, white trim, and red window accents, along with parked cars, green trees, utility poles, and lights beginning to glow as evening set in. A slight camera pan reveals the fast-moving cloud mass and the eerie atmosphere created by the approaching storm. The sky takes on a yellowish-gray tint commonly associated with severe weather.

The original post caption reads: “The clouds were looking weird so I started filming this looking toward the airport. Then immediately sent it to @Spothe who passed it on to EC”.

According to the information provided, the unusual cloud formations were quickly reported to weather spotters, who forwarded the observation to Environment Canada for monitoring.

The storm was part of a broader severe weather outbreak across Manitoba that prompted multiple tornado warnings. Reports from the day included funnel clouds near the airport area, as well as heavy rain, strong winds, and hail.

While no immediate widespread damage from a confirmed tornado touchdown in the immediate Winnipeg area was widely reported from this particular storm cell, the footage highlights the rapid development of dangerous weather conditions and supercell-like features. Environment Canada and local weather spotters actively tracked the system.
