Southampton Protests Erupt After Henry Nowak Murder Case

Southampton, England – Video filmed by X user Michal z Ciemnogrodu shows scenes from protests in Southampton following the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak.

The accompanying post states that the demonstrations occurred after the release of police bodycam footage related to the case.

The footage shows crowds gathering and moving through the streets while expressing anger over the police response to the stabbing. Protesters confront police lines, march through parts of the city and demonstrate the scale of public outrage.

The material documents protests that took place in Southampton on June 2, 2026, after 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa was sentenced for the December 2025 murder of university student Henry Nowak.

Bodycam footage released in the case showed officers handcuffing the dying Nowak while he pleaded, “I can’t breathe,” after Digwa falsely claimed he had been the victim of a racist attack.

The demonstrations included gatherings outside the police station and marches toward affected areas. In some locations the unrest turned violent, with objects thrown at riot police.

Authorities reported that 11 officers and one police dog were injured. Two arrests were made during the disturbances.

The video provides a close-up look at the protests and the continuing debate over the police handling of the case.
