Magħtab, Malta – Video filmed by X user Ben Gub captured the moment a powerful explosion tore through the Ta’ Lourdes fireworks factory in northern Malta on the morning of June 1, 2026.
The footage shows a huge fireball erupting violently from the facility, followed by a massive plume of thick black smoke that rapidly expands and rises high into the sky.
The force of the explosion causes immediate visible damage to nearby homes, vehicles, and other structures in the surrounding area.
According to reports, the blast occurred at approximately 6:35 a.m. at the fireworks factory.
No workers were inside the facility when the explosion happened.
Two men who were working in nearby fields suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
The shockwave shattered windows, damaged houses and vehicles, and scattered debris across a wide area.
Several animals, including cows, birds, and a parrot, were also killed in the blast.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. No suspicion of foul play has been reported so far.
